Fed: The battle for GM in Australia

CANBERRA, Feb 20 AAP - Slowly, but surely, Australian consumers are growing more concerned
about genetically modified foods.

And slowly, and just as surely, farmers are becoming more comfortable with planting
and growing GM crops.

In the process, a war is being waged by those who oppose genetic modification in its
totality and those who would profit from the technology.

It is an emotionally charged war that at its most basic is about what we eat.

The first GM crops were grown commercially in 1996.
