NSW: Iemma defends govt on DOCS
New South Wales Premier MORRIS IEMMA says a steep rise in child protection reports
.. was expected following the introduction of mandatory reporting.
Latest statistics show nearly a 20 per cent increase in reports to the Department of
Community Services in the last three months of last year.
Mr IEMMA says the government's tackling the problem with a 1.2 billion five-year plan
that includes more case workers and support programs.
The most prevalent issue during the December 2005 quarter was domestic violence ..
followed by physical abuse and neglect.
